The collection consists of business correspondence, general correspondence, music lists, and financial reports of radio stations owned by Communications Funds, Inc. (CFI).   The material covers the years 1971-1974 and 1992-1993 with the bulk of the material ranging from 1971-1974.

In 1958, Richard Miller moved to St. Louis from Atlanta and began his long and distinguished radio career with the purchase of radio station KXLW. In 1969, he purchased KADI-FM.

Miller created CFI as the holding company for the acquisition and development of AM and FM radio broadcasting stations. CFI owned outstanding stocks of four major subsidiaries that operated radio broadcasting stations in Kansas City, Missouri (KWKI); St. Louis, Missouri (KADI and KXLW); and Springfield, Massachusetts (WMAS and WHVY).

He owned several other successful stations that became regular stops for national talent. His local stations were a launching point for many other well-known local radio personalities. Miller started the weekly oldies shows on Sunday nights at his stations and was one of the first to promote using station posters.

By the mid-1990s, Miller sold all of his radio stations and became Chairman of Truman Bank. Miller was inducted into the St. Louis Radio Hall of Fame in 2005.
